This collection includes T.S. Eliot's six most important essays on the fundamentals of literary criticism, namely Tradition and Individual Talent, Functions of Literary Criticism, Three Voices in Poetry, Authors and Critics, Boundaries of Literary Criticism, and Criticism. Unlike his literary criticism essays, which focus on specific writers' works, the essays in this anthology are more general in nature.

Tapal Batas Kritik Sastra was the first essay on literature that I read, so I feel that my understanding of literature is still far. Tapal Batas Kritik Sastra provides an understanding of the journey of literary critics and reviews of previous literary critics, of course through Eliot's point of view. There are many things and terms that I feel I still need to re-understand because this book cannot be practically understood in just one reading. But in general I can catch what the author wants to convey.

Unfortunately, typical of translated books, there are many arrangements and equivalent words that are difficult to understand and make it difficult to grasp the true meaning that the original author, Eliot, wants to convey. Of course, I was greatly helped by the translation from Cep Subhan KM, who translated the book. Many sentence structures need to be read over and over again to be able to grasp the meaning. Sentences that seem to only be translated word by word without rearranging them as a unified whole are often confused. So I have to make sure many times what the translator wants to convey. Even so, it actually made me curious about how the original look of this book before it was translated. So that I can find the real meaning presented by the writer and translator.

Despite his flaws, it's a pleasure to accompany Tapal Limits of Literary Criticism on his physical and emotional journeys. By reading books from T.S. This Eliot, my understanding of the literary world which is still very low has become a little more enlightened. That a literary work can be viewed differently by every literary critic and how the world of literary criticism develops.
